Toronto, Canada
Premio Archmarathon 2017, categoria Visioning

There has to be a difference between building in Torino and Building in Toronto, two cities with different people, different geography, weather and temperatures.
We do lot of talking about energy saving and sustainability and often we refer to choices that are purelly tecnical and we refer to materials which we can control through technlogy. What if we try refuse automatic answering concentrating on the specific qualities or dis-qualities of a place and we try to use them to create a better building belonging trully its place?
La Maison Glacé is an experiment with wich we aim to connect the building to its surroundings throug one of the prime carachter associated to the city of Toronto: Cold.
Cold is here used to protect from cold?
La Maison Glacé is a single family house with attached guest apartment wich will self protect from the cold and from the winds of the near by lake Ontario through a crust of ice which will build up in the first cold days of winter creating a bareer wich will maintain a milder temperature close to the house.
